The teaching resources include a lesson plan with suggested activities and a poster.
By the end of the lesson, your students will:
be able to recognise and respond appropriately when someone has a severe bleed
know what to do if there is an object embedded in the wound
understand the risk of cross infection and know how to minimise this risk
be able to recognise and respond appropriately if the casualty is in shock
know how to check for further injuries and be aware of the signs of internal bleeding.
Who can deliver this first aid lesson?
The lesson plans can be delivered by teachers, higher-level teaching assistants, school nurses and youth leaders who have a current first aid qualification. The first aid qualification must cover the topic you are teaching.
All the information from the resources can be found in the current edition of the First Aid Manual.
